A big clusterof grapes from Canaan. Two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb,were brave men. They said to Israel, The land is good. Itis full of milk and honey. Let us go up at once and take it.So God has commanded. We can easily take it, for God iswith us. Oh, no, said ten of the spies, who were cowards. Thepeople there are so big that we look like grasshoppers besidethem. And they frightened Israel from going up. Thepeople began to cry and complain all that night. Joshuaand Caleb tried in vain to quiet them. Then said God to Moses: As I live, all of you that aretwenty years old and over shall never come into the Prom-ised Land except Joshua and Caleb. But your little childrenwill I bring in. For forty years you shall wander aroundin this wilderness.It happened just so.God keeps His word. Num. 13, lb.

BIBLE PRIMER 61 28. THE BRAZEN SERPENT. In the desert there were many poisonous serpents. Thepeople of Israel soon found that out. You remember they had to travel back and forth, here andthere, for forty years. So they grew tired. They complainedagainst Moses and God. They said to Moses, Why did youbring us out of Egypt to die in this wilderness? There isno bread, no water, only this light Manna, and we are tiredof Manna. Manna was a white, sweet flake, or scale, thatGod sent every morning to Israel for food. Then God sent poisonous serpents that bit the people.They died in great numbers.
