Abraham heard of this. He loved peace. He was notselfish. So he took Lot with him on a high hill. Then hesaid to Lot: Let there be no strife between me and you.If you wish to go to the right, I will go to the left. If youtake the left, I will take the right. -M Lot looked over the land. He chose the fine, rich land inthe valley of the Jordan, around the city of Sodom. Abra-ham chose the stony hills of Canaan, at Mamre. There hebuilt an altar to the Lord. But in Sodom were wicked people.Selfish Lot made a poor choice. No one can be happy withgodless people. Ah, and then the good God came to Abraham and cheeredhim. He said: Lift up your eyes and look. All this landwill I give you and your children for ever. I will make yourchildren and childrens children as many as the dust of theearth. Gen. 13.

BIBLE PRIMER 23 9. SODOM AND GOMORRAH. You remember the three visitors that came to Abraham. When the three angels left Abrahams tent, he went withthem a little way on toward Sodom. There Lot, his nephew,lived. As they walked, the angels told Abraham that Godmeant to destroy the wicked Sodom and Gomorrah. Then Abraham, Friend of God, began to pray with allhis might for Sodom. He said, If there be fifty righteousthere, wilt Thou spare the city? God said He would. ThenAbraham went down from fifty to forty-five, from forty-fiveto forty, from forty to thirty, from thirty to twenty. WouldGod be patient once more ? If there be ten, wilt Thou sparethe city? And God promised. But there were not even tenrighteous in Sodom. It was evening. Lot sat in the gate of the city. Then thetwo angels came. Good news for Lot? No, no!
