ezekiah turned to the wall and cried to God,0 Lord, remember now, I beg Thee, how I have walked be-fore Thee in truth, and have done that which is good in Thysight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Isaiah the prophet had just left the palace. The Lord tellshim to go back and say to the king, I have heard yourprayer. I have seen your tears. See, I will cure you. Onthe third day you shall go up to the house of God. And Iwill add to your life fifteen years. And Isaiah said: Takea cake of figs. And they took it and laid it on the boil, andHezekiah became well again. God heard his prayer in love and goodness! How shall I know that I shall go to the temple in threedays ? asked the king. Isaiah said, This is the sign. Theshadow on the dial shall go back or forward ten steps, eitherway, just as you say. And the king said, Backward. Theshadow went back. God heard Isaiahs prayer to make theking sure of Gods promise. The king might have knownthat God would do what He promised. II Kings 20. ———-

BIBLE PRIMER 97 46. JONAH PREACHING. Have you ever heard of Jonah ? God said to him, Go and tell the people in Nineveh toturn away from their sins and to turn to Me. But Jonahdid not want to go to far-off Nineveh. He took a boat in-stead and went in the other direction to get away from theLord. Then God sent a storm. The people on the boat were heathen. They thought thatthe storm had come because of some wicked person aboard.If they could find that person, and throw him into the water,then the storm would quiet down, they thought. So theysaid, Let us cast lots, and see who it is. And the lot fellon Jonah. So they threw Jonah into the sea. But God sent a large fish that swallowed Jonah. AndJonah was alive in the fish three days and nights. Then thefish threw up Jonah on the shore. Now Jonah obeyed. He went straight to Nineveh and preached. Only fortydays more, and Nineveh shall be destroyed. And all the people, even the king, cried to the Lord toforgive their sins. God heard them, and
